University announces changes to perimeter gates

On Thursday, the University of New Haven announced changes to their perimeter gate operation, with plans to close different entrances on campus to funnel incoming traffic. The announcement came via an email from Police Chief Adam Brown, which explained the various safety changes that have taken place on campus this semester.

Cross country posts program best finishes at NE-10 Championship

The New Haven men’s and women’s cross country teams traveled to Saint Michael’s College in Vermont to compete in the Northeast-10 Conference Championship on Sunday.

Heading into the race, the men’s team was voted to finish in eight among the coaches’ pre-championship poll. They have been anchored all season by William Brown, who has routinely posted high finishes in their meets while leading the Chargers. With the conclusion of the 2022 men’s and women’s soccer seasons, the Northeast-10 (NE-10) Conference announced its end-of-the-year All-Conference teams. Both New Haven teams found players getting honored, recognizing their contributions this season.

Tennis postseason honors

After a standout season for the New Haven women’s tennis team that finished with an early loss in the Northeast-10 (NE-10) playoffs, four players have earned postseason honors.

Freshman Valentinna Ferrarini earned All-Conference Third Team in the singles, while also earning a selection to the All-Rookie team and finishing as the runner up for the Rookie of the Year award. She finished the year with a 9-3 overall record in singles and a 7-2 record as the No. 1 single.

Adjunct professor arrested after allegedly trying to meet with 14-year-old girl

A former University of New Haven professor was arrested on Sept. 23 in Greenwich, Conn. after exchanging sexually explicit messages and trying to meet up with a “14-year-old girl” who was actually an undercover detective, according to Greenwich Police Department.

David Rewcastle, 59, who taught intro-level micro and macroeconomics classes at the university, was charged with criminal attempt at risk of injury to a minor and criminal attempt at enticing a minor by computer.

Volleyball overpowers Dolphins with 3-0 win

The New Haven women’s volleyball team earned their first home win of the season on Saturday afternoon, taking down visiting Le Moyne College in straight sets. It was also Senior Day for the Chargers, who honored their six seniors – Julia Guarniere, Itzel Cruz, Emily Barry, Emma Lazerson and Sammie Paguia – in a ceremony before the game.

After opening the season with 13 consecutive matches on the road, the New Haven women’s volleyball team returned to Charger Gymnasium for the first time in 2022. The result didn’t go the Chargers’ way, however, as they dropped the match 1-3 to Southern New Hampshire University in their second Northeast-10 (NE-10) matchup of the season.

UPD reflects on campus security following multiple breaches

As students returned from their first day of classes on Aug. 29, they were hit with an announcement from the University of New Haven’s automated safety messaging system. This alerted the university community that a student was robbed at knifepoint on Ruden St., just off of Main Campus.

In the second installation of the Elm City Series on Wednesday, the New Haven basketball teams walked away with standout wins in front of a crowd of over 1,000. It was also a night of recognition and celebration, as the athletic department recognized the Black Lives Matter movement and Black History Month, the men’s basketball seniors and the Northeast-10 football championship team.

The Northeast-10 (NE-10) Conference released their awards for the 2021 football season on Wednesday, with New Haven leading all NE-10 teams at 12 total selections to the All-Conference teams, including six on the First Team.
